June 2, 2025. Day 2 Budapest Today we took a tour of Budapest. The city is divided between “Budapest” which is the hilly side and “pest” which is the flat side with the Danube River running between them. The Parliament building is on the pest side and there are castles and an old and currently in use Catholic Church. Several bridges separate the two sides, with the oldest being the chain bridge. We have met some interesting people including a couple from Fl who originally came from Columbia (Yolanda and Jose) they have been married 56 years. The people on the boat are all very warm and friendly. The chain bridge that separates “Budapest” from “pest”. This square was built for a world’s fair, but it actually went to Paris that year.                                                       June 3, 2025. Day 3 This day will be an onboard day as we are heading out to Vienna.  Docking there at about 7 pm. It’s a little rainy so being on the boat today is probably a good idea. This morning, we were given a tour of the wheelhouse.  It was interesting to hear about the water levels and how the boat must always adjust course and speed. He talked about the amount of water the boat must carry for the passengers and how that also affects boat travel. The captain was from Slovenia.                                                   Banana split to celebrate Katie’s birthday! Another on board lesson was about Mozart and his legacy with Vienna ( we will attend a Mozar...

Day 1: Landing in Budapest, Hungary

June 1, 2025 Day 1 Leaving day.  Left BHM and after we boarded, we then had to leave the plane bc the air conditioning was not working. The temp got up to 90 and the pilot said we had to deboard for legal reasons. We were  waiting at the gate about 45 minutes which was fine for us bc we had a longer layover in Dallas, but this caused others to miss their connecting flights. When we got to DFW, moving from one terminal was very easy with the tram.  People also didn’t rush like they do at ATL.  We then boarded for the long flight to London.  Neither of us slept on this flight. Not impressed with the Heathrow airport; they don’t like to post gate info until about 30 minutes before boarding starts bc they want you to shop their stores.  When we landed in Budapest, there was a Viking representative to get our group together bc there were other Viking cruises getting there too on our plane.  We got to the boat right before dinner. The dinner was exc...
